One Down on the West Coast Swing

With one race in the books for the part of the schedule known as the West Coast Swing, the Rick Ware Racing team is still in Las Vegas preparing the cars for the Ticket Guardian 500 at ISM Raceway in Phoenix race this upcoming weekend.  The West Coast Swing is a 3 week stretch during the NASCAR racing schedule which includes races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, ISM Raceway in Phoenix and the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.   The RWR teams battled mechanical issues and set up issues with the new racing package to finish 35th and 37th this past Sunday in the Penzoil 400 which was won by Team Penske driver Joey Logano.

Cody Ware, driving the #51 JACOB Companies Chevrolet Camaro for the first time in a Monster Energy Cup Series event at Las Vegas , finished 35th.  Cody and Crew Chief Mike Hillman, Sr. struggled early to find the right set up but got better as the race went on and learned some important information for when the series returns in September. Cody Ware stated,  "We still have a lot of learning to do but I feel that we made some really good adjustments through the race and I feel that this will help us going into the race next weekend at ISM Raceway".  Cody was in very good spirits, as was the entire 51 team, after the race because of the positive adjustments made during the race and the fact that the car came out of the race without a scratch.

BJ McLeod was the pilot of the MTEL-ONE #52 Ford Mustang and brought the car home in the 37th position.  The #52 lost several laps when McLeod had to come to the garage early in the race due to a mechanical malfunction. Crew Chief George Church and the rest of the #52 crew worked on the Mustang and got it back out on the track and came out with a 37th place finish.

The Las Vegas Motor Speedway has allowed teams to stay and use the garage area this week to prepare their race cars for the upcoming West Coast events in Phoenix and California.  "This helps our team tremendously", says team owner Rick Ware. "We don't have to travel all the way back to North Carolina to prepare our cars so his allows us to spend the valuable time to work and set up our cars and it also helps to keep our overhead costs down."  The RWR teams will stay in Las Vegas until Thursday and then the teams will head South to Phoenix.

RWR Teams Finish 32nd and 33rd at Atlanta

The Rick Ware Racing teams left Atlanta with BJ McLeod finishing 32nd in the Trick Shot Chevrolet and Cody Ware finishing 33rd in the JACOB COMPANIES Ford Mustang.  McLeod had a pit road incident on lap 273 when a car from another team ran into the rear of the #52 as he was coming into the pits to get tires, fuel, and make a few adjustments.  The RWR #52 pit crew had to service the Chevrolet backwards in the pits after the spin.  BJ recovered to finish the race and take the checkered flag.

Cody Ware fought an ill handling race car all day and took the checkered flag in 33rd position.  "Our team tried really hard to get the car to handle, but we just couldn't get it done", said Ware.  "I feel confident that we will fix what went wrong in Atlanta and do better in Las Vegas."  Cody left Atlanta after the race and is making a cross country trip to Las Vegas for the Penzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday.  Be sure to follow Cody's cross country escapades by finding #WareRWeGoing on social media.
